“I’ll give them a November 5th they’ll never forget”! Those were the words spoken by the hero and liberator, “V”, near the end of the movie titled, “V For Vendetta”. His comment was mainly directed at the corrupt power brokers of the nation.
I searched and found that November 5th was a reference to the “Gunpowder Plot” of 1605 A.D in which a group of Catholics, in England, attempted to blow up the King’s palace along with the parliament buildings on Nov. 5th of that year. The Catholics plotters, at that time, resisted and objected to discriminatory and tyrannical laws enacted against them by the Protestant King and his parliament.
Among the Catholic plotters was a man, by the name of Guy Fawkes, who was responsible for setting off gunpowder which had been strategically placed under the target buildings. However, Guy Fawkes was discovered just before he could carry out his task. Apparently, he was captured and tortured in order to extract from him the names of the other conspirators.
Eventually, from what I read, they put him to death. Presently, England celebrates November 5th, called “Guy Fawkes Day”, each year with a huge bonfire and fireworks.
Like all freedom and justice loving people/leaders, “V” was a lone advocate for these social justice elements. He was against the corrupt government and her co-agents who denied these God-given and human rights. Presently, the Western Nations are under the same type of corrupt systems __loss of freedoms, spying, injustice, greed, immoral, etc.
Although he loses his life, “V” was victorious in arousing and awaking the people to the government’s injustices and corruption. In addition, “V“, with the help of a like-minded woman, was able to carry out what Guy Fawkes and his fellow liberators were unable to do.
Here are two clips from the “V For Vendetta” movie. You may have to turn up the volume for the first clip.
The first clip features “V” condemning the elite power brokers for their corruption. The second one features “V’s” victorious destruction of the parliament bldgs.
