Aborted Baby Fetal Cells Used As Food Flavour Enhancers. Shareholders Condemn PepsiCo

One wonders if this could be considered a form of cannibalism?! I have abbreviated the following Life News article.

By Steven Ertelt      Oct.25, 2011

Pepsi shareholders have filed a shareholder resolution with the Securities and Exchange Commission and PepsiCo demanding that the company has been contracting with a research firm that uses fetal cells from babies victimized by abortions to test and produce artificial flavour enhancers.

[T]ens of thousands of pro-life people voiced their opposition to PepsiCo contracting with biotech company Senomyx after it was found to be testing their food additives using fetal cells from abortions.

A pro-life group, Children of God For Life, (CGFL) stated: “they don’t tell the public that (Senomyx) is using HEK 293 – human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those flavour receptors”.

In August 2010, PepsiCo entered into a four-year agreement with Senomyx for the development of artificial high-potency sweeteners for PepsiCo beverages. Under the contract, PepsiCo is paying $30 million to Senomyx for the research…

Debi Vinnedge, of the CGFL said: “Shareholders have a right to know the truth about what PepsiCo is doing with their hard-earned savings. PepsiCo’s lack of consideration to the public’s moral sensibilities has only served to fuel the fire and threatens stock values, retirement pensions and investments.”

Shareholders filed a resolution requesting that “the Board of Directors adopt a corporate policy that recognizes human rights and employs ethical standards which do not involve using the remains of aborted human beings in both private and collaborative research and development agreements.”

PepsiCo tried to reassure the public their relationship with Senomyx was to produce “lower calorie great tasting beverages…using only gold standard industry research techniques.” (pic of aborted fetus at 24 wks on left)

Pro-life organizations are asking the public to boycott all Pepsi drink products and encourage consumers to contact Pepsi management requesting that they sever all ties with Senomyx.

    • ron abbass says:

Aloha Jonie! Thanks for your comments. I agree @ “so, so, so, wrong! They certainly are “destroying”, not only one’s kidney, but the general health of all those who drink that poison. Jonie, you’ve made an excellent choice @ “So as of today, I’m no more a Pepsi Fan”.

Peace and Blessings to you and yours, Jonie! 🙂 Take good care.

  6. Dee Welch says:

Oh my word, this is sooooo gross and morally wrong. What gives them the right to do this? Don’t they have any scruples? Surely any decent human being would know that this goes against all human decency. They should be brought up on charges!!! This article should be sent to all retailers and stockists too

    • ron abbass says:

Aloha Dee! Thanks for your comment and I wholeheartedly agree with you, especially @ “goes against all human decency”. Blessings and Peace to you and yours, Dee! Take good care. 🙂

  7. Ashleigh says:

Don’t you think it’s strange that humans find this disgusting and repulsive, but are more than willing to murder animals without the blink of an eye? Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Murder in any shape or form is wrong. However, with that being said; BOYCOTT PEPSI FOR THIS ATROCITY!

    • ron abbass says:

Hiya Ashleigh! Thanks for your comment and your’e bang on with: “Boycott Pepsi for this atrocity”!! Take good care, Ashleigh. Peace and blessings to you and yours! 🙂

  8. Olivia Dunham says:

So full of it!!!!! You people are whack-a-doos!!!! I had an abortion in college with no regrets. My husband and I don’t want kids though my niece is the love of my life. LET WOMEN CHOOSE!!!!

    • ron abbass says:

Hiya Olivia! Thanks for your comment. The Creator-God has given you free choice and you can choose to obey, or disobey his commandments. So you agree with using fetal cells for food enhancers. IMO, one has to be a “whack-a-doo” to accept that diabolical position. I suppose you also agree with genetically modified foods. So be it.

Thanks again. Peace to you and yours, Olivia.

  9. Frank says:

MMMMM! Tasty! So that’s why Pepsi tastes so much better than Coke. Seriously, Why do so many here read into this that Pepsi is adding aborted fetuses to their bottles of cola? Where did the article say that?

    • ron abbass says:

Hi Frank! Thanks for your comment. No one said that Pepsi is using fetuses in their cola.

Here’s what the article states: “pro-life people voiced their opposition to PepsiCo contracting with biotech company Senomyx after it was found to be testing their food additives using fetal cells from abortions.”

With respect to your other two comments which I have deleted, they are unrelated to the article.

Thanks again. Peace to you and yours.

  10. Jen says:

Are you aware of how often HEK-293 cells are used in research and to make important medical advances? If pro-lifers boycott Pepsi, they should also boycott all of modern medicine at the same time.

    • ron abbass says:

Hi Jen. Thanks for your comments. Did you know that “modern medicine” does not cure a disease. Are you aware of the deadly side-effects of most “modern medicines”? I’m not a scientist, nor am I familiar with HEK-293 Cells. Perhaps it is these cells which cause the destructive side-effects of “modern medicine”. Using fetal cells to enhance the flavour of food products is unexceptable. There’s a possibility that this will create health problems for the consumer, especially if these same cells are used in “modern medicine”.

Thanks again, Jen. Peace to you and yours.

      • Jen says:

        Hey Ron,
I appreciate the response and I would like to offer my response to your response. Modern medicine does in fact cure diseases. For the sake of clarity I will refer to diseases as described in the Miriam Webster Dictionary as being “a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms”. From this definition, it is clear that diseases encompass a wide range of maladies, of which, I will list the curable ones. Malaria, tuberculosis (and numerous other bacterial infections), gout, apendicitis, many cancers, gallstones, etc. are all curable. Many diseases, though not “curable” still have highly effective treatments that can almost completely eradicate all symptoms, slow disease progression and significantly improve the quality of life of the person suffering from that disease. Examples or treatable but not curable diseases include diabetes, asthma, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, other hormonal imbalances such as Addison’s disease, Phenyl Ketone Urea (PKU), Arthritis, thalassemias, Chron’s disease and the list goes on.
Not only that, but modern medicine has facilitated the development of vaccins, which have prevented the spread of preventable diseases that include pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox, smallpox, diptheria, tetanus, hepatitis, meningitis, typhoid, varicella etc. Obviously any treatment can have side effects, typically with death being a quite rare side effect, but typically the benefit of treatment far outweighs the risks. If a disease is guaranteed to kill you, I’m assuming you would opt for the cure/treatment if it greatly reduced your chance of dying, but carried maybe a 1% or less chance of death from side effects? Quite honestly, if it weren’t for modern medicine, most people would be dead before they were 40, so I would say the risk of some side effects from treatments is well worth the doubled (or even more) lifespan attributed to the progress of modern medicine.
Now onto the cells part of this. HEK 293 cells are a cell line that have been propagating for years. This cell line grows in dishes in the lab and are used for a variety of applications. Here’s a list of all of the scientific papers that have relied on these cells to make important discoveries: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=hek. Also, HEK cells/fetal cells are NOT used as flavor enhancers. I can assure you that this does not involve cannibalizing babies. This cell line is used to test the safety of such enhancers. Flavor enhancers, like drugs and other chemical compounds, need to be tested for safety before given to people. Animal studies can be difficult and time consuming and the results are not always accurate, since some animals respond differently to certain chemicals than humans would. A benefit to using cell lines is that the cell lines are human cells, so should respond in the same fashion as if the compound were ingested or applied to a person, and studies can be done quickly without having to sacrifice a huge number of animals. Essentially what is done is the cells are exposed to the flavor enhancers to see if the flavor enhancers are safe. By this I mean that no mutagenic effect is observed, or the cells don’t die or divide out of control (carcinogenic) when exposed to the compound. These methods allow for researchers to determine how safe a chemical is and in the case of Pepsi, find chemical flavor enhancers that can be added to products that will not have any harmful effects to whomever ingests it (ie. develop cancer).

Thank you, Jen, for your lengthy commentary. It’s my guess, from your observations, that you are a part of the Orthodox Medical System. If I had the time, which I don’t, I could present a host of articles presented by bona fide independent medical professionals who would disagree with your position.

From my own research, the orthodox medical system, especially “Big Pharma” is not in the business of curing diseases__bring back to a healthy state and permanently end a problem. Their drugs/vaccines may keep one alive, but that individual will be in ill-health the rest of his/her life. And, that Jen, is a fact!

Peace and Blessings to you and yours.

    • Haley Brandt says:

Jenn, I admire you greatly. ❤ way to stand up for what you believe in. Speaking of medical advancements, have you seen the NIMH page lately? It's pathetic.
Ron; I'm not saying the aborted fetus picture is fake (I wouldn't know, I'm no doctor), but it is NOT 24 weeks along.
By 24 weeks, a fetus is usually anywhere from 10 to 12 inches long, and its body is well defined. Premature babies born at the 24 week mark have about a 30 percent chance of surviving.
This link provides a picture of the person holding the world record for largest hands.

His index finger is about 12 inches long.
What I'm saying is, there is no possible way for someone's hands to dwarf a baby so much that it looks several months younger. That baby is NOT 24 weeks.
      Have a nice day. 🙂

      • ron abbass says:

Hi Haley! Thanks for your comments. I confess that I do not know if the picture of the baby is 24 weeks old. That is not the issue. The concern is the fact that Pepsico was/is in the process of enhancing their food/drink products using human fetal cells, which have been developed by a particular research company. That’s the real deal issue.

Haley, there is enough unnatural and other man-made concocted chemicals in our food without adding human cells to nature’s food __think GMO’s.

In any case, Hon, thanks again for the link and your observations. They are much appreciated. Peace and blessings to you and yours. 🙂

  12. Why would you show this picture on the internet? It is not an X rated site and it comes up on the top of the search engine for images. My toddler son saw this picture because I googled fetus to show him a picture of what an unborn baby looks like. I am sure in some twisted way you will justify this as the people’s right to know, its good for us. Well I am sure we get the message in the news report without having to see the disgusting image you decided to accompany with your post to drive it home. Sir, you are a creature.

    • ron abbass says:

Hi raven! Thanks for your comments. You must understand, raven, what may be disgusting to you, may not be for others. What is really digusting to any normal/healthy human is the fact baby fetal cells are being used as flavouring elements within our food!! Ugh!!

Indeed, raven, I am a “creature” and so are you __ie__a living being, a person! 🙂

Thanks again for taking the time to comment _ it’s much appreciated. Peace to you and yours!
