A teenager in the US was suspended from school and hauled before the police because he wrote a story about killing his neighbour’s dinosaur in a class assignment. Year-nine student Alex Stone was told to write a Facebook-like “status” update for a class assignment at his South Carolina high school.
The imaginative 16-year-old penned a story in which he wrote the words “gun” and “take care of business” — words that triggered his teacher’s overblown concern.
“I killed my neighbour’s pet dinosaur, and, then, in the next status I said I bought the gun to take care of the business,” Stone told WCSC’s Live5News.
His teacher immediately contacted school officials who then called the police on Tuesday, investigators said. Police arrived at the Summerville School and searched Alex’s bag and locker but found no gun.
The student was then suspended for the rest of the week for the fictional story he maintains was taken out of context.
Alex’s mother Karen Gray said she could not understand why the school did not contact her or make him do the assignment again. “I could understand if they made him re-write it because he did have ‘gun’ in it. But a pet dinosaur?” Ms Gray told Live5News, suggesting the reaction was over the top.
“I mean first of all, we don’t have dinosaurs anymore. Second of all, he’s not even old enough to buy a gun.”
Alex told the police his work was meant as a joke, but the infraction will now go on his permanent record.
Police say Alex was disruptive and was detained because he was disrupting schools and arrested and charged for disorderly conduct?
