A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after her she was raped, impaled and then burned in sickening attack.
The family of the 44-year-old victim, revealed the details of the horrific attack, and said that she was in a critical condition and had been placed in induced coma.
The brutal assault is said to have happened in the city of Buga in western Colombia, where locals have been left shocked by the gruesome incident.
The woman, who worked as a maid, had taken on a second job painting houses to earn extra money is said to have been set upon while decorating a new flat.
Her son said she had gone to the flat on Sunday, and he became concerned when he tried to call his mother but could not get through.
He alerted other relatives, and the woman was then found by her son in the flat the next morning, unconscious, badly beaten and abused, according to reports.
It is alleged she had been raped and then beaten, and traces of faeces were found around her mouth. Her body was also found to have numerous burn marks on it.
The victim’s sister said: “As part of the abuse, she was impaled, they burned her body, they disgraced her.”
She refused to give further details on how her sister was impaled, but medical staff say they have identified heavy injuries around her genitals.
The woman underwent several rounds of surgery but doctors were forced to place her in an induced coma due to the extent of her injuries.
The victim remains in hospital while police investigate the incident, but no details of any suspects have been released.
Dilian Francisca Toro, the governor of the Valle del Cauca Department, where the incident took place, issued a £5,000 reward to anyone who can help with catching the attackers.
