Sabbath Word (July28/18) The Christian Cross: Biblical Reality or Pagan Symbol?

Sabbath Day (Ex.20: 8 – 11)    by r. a.         Sat., July 28, 2018

In Messiah’s name: for those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

If a family member or friend was hung on the gallows, would you use a noose or gallows to remember or memorialize him/her? If Messiah (Christ) was beheaded, would you use a guillotine as a symbol of your faith? The answer is probably not, as these are instruments of shame and death.

According to various Encyclopedias and other historical writings, many variations of the “cross” were used as pagan religious symbols long before the birth of Christ.

The “tau cross” is one form of the pre-Christian cross. It was so named because it resembled the Greek capital letter “T”. The tau form of the cross had been used as a pagan Egyptian symbol of “life” (the ankh) and then adopted by Christians, called Copts, in Egypt.

Here’s a pic of an Egyptian “tau cross”.

Before my conversion, many years ago, I was born and brought up as a Catholic I would “cross” myself by touching my forehead, breast, and then each shoulder with my right hand to form a symbolic cross during certain religious rituals and personal endeavors. I no longer make the sign of the cross. It does not ward off evil spirits or protect one from harm – it’s not a biblical behaviour.

The Term “Cross” In The Bible

The English term “cross” appears 28 times in the New Testament and comes from the Greek word “stauros”, which means “an upright stake”. The “tau cross” does not truly represent the instrument or manner in, or on which Christ was put to death. He died on an upright pole referred to as a “tree” in Acts 5: 30 ; 10: 39 & 13: 29.

Picture Of Cross and Prayer Beads On Bible In Header Top of Page

Notice in the header pic both the beads and cross are on the outside of the bible. The cross and beads represent Catholicism and modern Christianity, while the Bible represents biblical reality. That is, the cross and beads do not square with biblical doctrines. They are on the “outside” of the bible and do not come from “within” same.

Many doctrines of these religious organizations are contrary and opposed to sound biblical teaching, especially concerning the Sabbath, holy days and the singular Creator-God, the great I AM and his true son, Messiah –the man!

Please hear these scripts:
Before the Israelites entered the promise land, the Creator-God, the great I AM warns them:

“(30) take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them (the pagan religions), after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, “How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.” (31) You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.” (Deut.12: 30 -31 NKJV)

The true followers of Messiah obey and observe the commandments. statutes and judgments of the great I AM. They reject satanic inspired and deceptive teachings spewed out by “the dragon, who has deceived the whole world”. (Rev.12: 9)

All glory, praise and honor to the Creator-God, the great I AM, in Messiah’s name.

Peace, blessings and protection to all who love the truth and hate the lies and deceptions.

About ron abbass

Because of my last name, there are some who might think I'm a Muslim. I'm an older student of the bible and I regard myself as Christian-other. That is, I was baptized in a Torah-keeping assembly. I'm one who tries his best to follow Yayshua, the Messiah (Christ) by keeping the commandments, the dietary laws, the weekly Sabbath and the annual Sabbaths (Holy Days) instituted and ordained by the great I AM, the Creator-God of Israel. I reject the holidays and festivals invented by the Roman church. Truth-seeking is my present passion. Presently, I do a lot of research into the World Wars, the mass media, the Holocaust, Zionism, Health Issues, 9/11 and the power brokers who are behind the New World Order that is gradually being established mainly in the Western Nations. Many prognosticators (prophets) both secular and religious are warning us that we are living "On the Eve of Destruction" - the last days. There's a very good chance a nuclear tsunami will eventually visit many nations. Peace and blessings to all who love the truth and hate the lies.
