President Trump on Thursday warned that former Attorney General Eric Holder “better be careful what he’s wishing for,” one day after video surfaced showing Holder saying that when Republicans “go low” Democrats should “kick them” in response.
“He better be careful what he’s wishing for. That’s a disgusting statement for him to make. For him to make a statement like that is a very dangerous statement,” Trump said during a wide-ranging interview on Fox & Friends.
On Wednesday, video surfaced of Holder’s comments, which he made while campaigning for Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams (D).
Holder, who served under former President Obama, said that the “new Democratic Party” needed to “fight” for its ideals.
“Michelle [Obama] always says that, you know, ‘When they go low, we go high.’ No. When they go low, we kick them.” Holder, who served under former President Obama, said “That’s what this new Democratic Party is about,” Holder said. “We’re proud as hell to be Democrats. We’re going to fight for the ideals of the Democratic Party.”
Holder (pic on left), who has said he is interested in a possible 2020 White House bid, later clarified in the speech that when he says to “kick them,” he doesn’t mean doing anything inappropriate or illegal.
Trump on Thursday also targeted Holder as a possible Democratic opponent in 2020, saying “he’s got some problems” and predicting that the Democratic primaries “would gobble him up.”
“I don’t see him running,” Trump said. “And if he did run, I think he gets gobbled up before he ever gets to the election itself. I think the primaries would gobble him up.”
